The great forest called “Frankenwald” stands out through its unusually fast changing altitudes. Changing from densely wooded ridges to verdant valleys. Approximately 125 acres are woodland. Numerous rivers and streams run through the area and used to be transport routes for the timber industry. The climate is sometimes harsh and distinctive and provides enough snow for winter sports.

Playing Tennis is very popular with our guests. As our guest you have the opportunity to use the nearby tennis court. We will happily arrange a match for you.
Hiking trails on the “Rennsteig”
The “Rennsteig”, with its 170km in length, is the oldest continuous hiking trail in the “Thüringer Wald” in central Germany. Relax in the peaceful landscape and discover many interesting hiking trails.

Castle “Lauenstein”

A Winter Sport Center is only a 20 minute drive away. Equipped with two drag-lifts, a floodlight system and a restaurant, it is suitable for beginners and experts alike.

The “Staffelberg”
Already from a distance, the “Staffelberg” greets its visitors with its striking rock crest. For hikers and nature lovers, the “Berg der Franken” is the biggest attraction in the “Main” river valley. It radiates a special, almost mystical fascination. The mountain’s high plateau is its distinctive feature.

“Kronach” and Medieval Fortress “Festung Rosenberg”
The medieval castle, surrounded by a baroque fortification, rises above the city of “Kronach”. It is one of the best preserved fortresses in Bavaria and has never been taken by force in its long history, reaching back to the 13th century.

At the Arnika Academy we wish to guard, preserve and pass on the valuable knowledge of herbs and their abilities to kindred spirits, who feel connected to nature and its treasures. We value the vast possibilities herbs have to offer, reaching from uses in natural medicine to beauty treatments and culinary art.
In the process we combine old knowledge and the latest scientific findings.
We aim at providing knowledge and skills and thus creating jobs, offering ideas for start-ups, raising awareness for sustainable consumption, providing inspiration for the kitchen at home, helping people to lead a healthier life.
The Academy is surrounded by lush greenery. On a modern campus you will find a cafeteria, school kitchen, indoor pool and a 3,000 square meter herb garden.

The “Festung Rosenberg” Festival offers top-class open-air theater during the months of June and July. Staging high above the roofs of “Kronach” in the mighty and beautiful “Festung Rosenberg”, which is one of the most important fortifications in Germany.
